Philosophy of a Special Education Program
It
is the philosophy of the Sedgwick County Area Educational Services Interlocal
Cooperative to provide a free and appropriate educational program to assist all
exceptional children in reaching all levels of attainment compatible with their
potential.
To
promote the success of any special program, a team approach must be accepted
and implemented by all personnel, regular and special, that serve exceptional
children. The various stages of
planning, implementing and administering special services require that all
personnel agree that the express purpose of all special programs is to serve
the exceptional child, and all considerations should be directed toward the
welfare of the exceptional child whether he/she be a home student, out of
district student, a special class student, or one served by an itinerant
teacher. It is expected that the
exceptional child be a recipient of all the privileges and services granted
other students and by the same token it is expected that he/she be charged with
all responsibilities of "studentship" that he/she is capable of handling.
