JOB TITLE: School Social Worker

1. PURPOSE
OF POSITION: Provides social work
services on a regular basis for individual and groups of students identified as
exceptional and in need of social work services as listed on individual
education plans. Consults with
students' families, staff and resource groups to mediate for emotional and
social needs, projected therapy, and short and long term academic success of
students. Participates in the
evaluation of non-exceptional students as part of the General Education
Intervention processes.
2. ESSENTIAL
DUTIES: Others may be assigned.
a. Collects,
organizes, and analyzes exceptional student social history through interviews,
records, tests, and professional sources; makes regular reports and keeps
records as required.
b. Compiles
and studies social history, educational, occupational, and economic information
to assist exceptional students in making and carrying out personal and family
goals and to facilitate educational objectives.
c. Continues
regular appraisals of exceptional student social adjustments including home,
community, school, public and personal interrelationships; assesses interests,
aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics to assist with planning.
d. Develops
schedules to include all sites assigned; coordinates and communicates with
administrators and teachers involved.
e. Consults
with exceptional students individually or in groups to deal with problems
including but not limited to: academic achievement, self esteem, parent/home,
social and interaction with peers, behavior problems, all types of abuse;
refers parents and students to appropriate services. Maintains confidentiality
of student information.
f. Establishes
rapport with exceptional students in case load; employs variety of techniques
and interaction; integrates appropriate intervention services to impact needs
of students.
g. Plans,
schedules, and makes classroom presentations on appropriate topics/activities.
h. Participates
in staffing of special education students as required; assists in team approach
to treatment.
i. Makes
contact with substance abuse prevention groups and coordinates intervention
activities; provides classroom presentations.
j. Provides
necessary communications between school and community referral sources; makes
and answers requests on behalf of exceptional students involved.
k. Provides
leadership and serves as a building resource person for the building
administrator and staff; participates in parent conferences as required;
establishes systems for communication.
l. Responsible
for the daily tasks of intervention with individual exceptional students;
regularly checks on student IEP's.
m. Communicates
with social work peers when seeking advice, guidance, and assistance; supports
goals of the Interlocal and Districts involved while intervening with
exceptional students.
n. Engages
in research and follow‑up activities to evaluate counseling
techniques; participates in personal professional development and in providing
staff inservice as required.
o. Supervises
personnel as required.
p. Manages
all job duties with mobility, agility, dexterity, and focused observation it
takes to meet job standards of performance.
3. OTHER
DUTIES: Others may be assigned.
a. Participates
in teacher inservice, committees, and teacher meetings.
b. Prepares group
activities as required.
c. Supervises
groups of exceptional students as scheduled.
d. Reports
paraprofessional assessment as required.
e. Attends
programs and events related to schools.
4. QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in social work. Licensed through the Behavioral Science
Regulatory Board.
5. PERFORMANCE
STANDARDS:
a. Must
support Interlocal and district mission, goals and objectives.
b. Must
demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality; diversity and quality of
interaction to integrate various methods and skills when dealing with
exceptional student behavior and implementation of intervention techniques with
individual students; leadership qualities displayed in planning, organizing and
implementing the skills necessary to be an effective social worker.
c. Must
demonstrate ability to maintain and coordinate balance between exceptional
students, teachers, and administrators in dealing with social problems.
d. Must
demonstrate ability to plan, schedule, and assimilate information concerning
various therapy techniques and related issues.
e. Must
demonstrate quality classroom presentations.
f. Must
have a plan for personal professional growth evidenced by recorded efforts and
continuing concerted efforts to improve performance and student achievement.
g. Must
meet all district and Interlocal safety requirements.
h. Must
perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
i. Professional
evaluation performed annually by Principal.
6. ATTENDANCE
REQUIREMENTS: As required in
policy.
7. WORK
ENVIRONMENT: Moderate
environmental conditions and noise levels. May be required to wear protective garments and/or gloves
for exposure control.
