1. PURPOSE
OF POSITION:
Provides school psychological services for students ages 3-21 who may
need special education services: determines eligibility, identifies and
diagnoses needs, evaluates, confers, interprets, recommends, consults, administers,
manages cases, teaches, travels and supervises.
2. ESSENTIAL
DUTIES: Others
may be assigned.
a. Provides preassessment,
assessment, scoring, evaluation, interpretation and consultation for identified
students:
(1) Consults with preassessment team to
develop appropriate educational strategies for students with exceptional
abilities or learning difficulties.
(2) Determines appropriate assessment
battery for each individual child/student depending on presenting
characteristics.
(3) Collects, organizes, and analyzes
pertinent student history through interviews, records, tests, and professional
sources from every staff member in contact with student and from student
including but not limited to the following: observes student behavior, records
verbal responses (amount of time taken, etc.), computes data, and evaluates
students (using psychometric tests, etc.), and makes regular reports and keeps
records as required.
(4) Schedules and administers test(s),
scores, interprets and writes report of findings and proposes recommendations.
(5) Organizes appropriate staff
meetings and feedback sessions with parents; properly documents sessions;
maintains confidentiality of conferences and records.
(6) Provides consultation with
personnel and counseling with students.
(7) Recommends individual educational
planning in remediation and intervention.
(8) Provides insight into least
restrictive placement, structure for best treatment for students.
(9) Consults with families, staff,
administrators and community resources to mediate for academic, therapeutic,
emotional and social needs, projected therapy, and short and long term success
of students.
b. Administers and manages
case load and provides inservice training to other personnel associated with
the Interlocal or Districts.
(1) Monitors case load and provides
further interventions as required.
(2) Writes evaluation reports; consults
with parents, school personnel, agency personnel; conducts case conferences as
required.
(3) Collects and logs progressive data
concerning each individual student.
(4) Makes regular reports on case load
as required.
(5) Teaches inservice modules for
paraprofessionals and regular education staff members as required.
(6) Travels to all school sites
assigned to perform all professional school psychological services.
c. Supervises
personnel assigned.
d. Participates in
training and inservice programs.
e. Manages all job
functions with mobility to move from place to place; drives from location to
location; interacts with students of all ages and teachers from all levels.
3. OTHER
DUTIES: Others
may be assigned.
a. Participates in teacher
inservice, committees, and other meetings associated with special education
work.
b. Prepares group
activities as required.
c. Reports
paraprofessional assessment as required.
d. Attends programs and
events related to Interlocal and/or schools as required.
4. QUALIFICATIONS: Certification from
the Kansas State Board of Education.
Specialist's degree in school psychology.
5. PERFORMANCE
STANDARDS:
a. Must support district
mission, goals and objectives.
b. Must demonstrate
ability to maintain confidentiality regarding interventions; leadership
qualities in planning, organizing and implementing the skills of an effective
school psychologist.
c. Must demonstrate
ability to integrate skills when dealing with student behavior to implement
intervention techniques; plan, schedule, and assimilate information concerning
various therapy techniques and related issues; ability to work with
multi-disciplinary teams.
d. Must demonstrate
ability to use audio, visual and regular classroom equipment including but not
limited to computer, tape recorder, record player, VCR, TV, overhead projector,
and any applicable adaptive equipment.
e. Must achieve objectives
in the IEP for students' needs and as projected to assist in curriculum and
performance outcomes.
f. Must have a plan
for personal professional growth activities including but not limited to those
supplied by the district.
g. Must meet all district
safety requirements.
h. Performance evaluation
performed annually by Supervisor.
6. ATTENDANCE
REQUIREMENTS:
As required in policy.
7. WORK
ENVIRONMENT:
Moderate environmental conditions and noise levels. May be required to wear protective
equipment including gloves for exposure control under limited circumstances.
